NJII Provides Project Management Professional Certification Exam Prep Course for New Jersey Transit

In early 2022, New Jersey Transit engaged with NJII to deliver Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification exam prep course to New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) Employees through the NJ Transit Capital Programs & Organization. NJ Transit was looking to further develop the capabilities and skillsets of their employees, specifically for their project management team.

Client Need

NJ Transit had a goal to achieve PMP certification for all employees on their Projects team, which was the catalyst for collaboration with NJII.  NJII offers custom training programs across disciplines and worked with NJ Transit to build and deliver the training. A prep course was needed to expose multiple teams throughout NJ Transit to learn about the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) best practices to help enhance project management knowledge across the various departments.

Solution

Based on the requirements collected from the NJ Transit team, NJII designed an initial program for 10 employees from cross functional teams.  Tapping into NJIT adjunct professor and long-time project management professional Raymond Vaccari, the initial class participated in nine weeks and 35 hours of training necessary to take the exam.  Based on that success, NJ Transit continued to run two additional cohorts which effectively prepared 30 employees to apply for the PMP exam through the certification sponsor organization, the Project Management Institute (PMI).

“Professor Ray is very knowledgeable and dedicated to his students. His experience, time, and organization benefited us all. I would recommend him to all that are looking to get their PMP certification”
