New Jersey Innovation Institute Achieves Coveted Level of Risk Assurances with HITRUST Risk-based 2-year Certification

HITRUST Risk-based, 2-year Certification validates New Jersey Innovation Institute is committed to consistently and effectively meeting key regulations and protecting sensitive information.

Newark, New Jersey (December 9, 2022) – New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), a leading provider of innovative and transformative services, today announced NJII’s key implemented systems have earned the highest certified assurance status available for information security by HITRUST.

HITRUST Risk-based, 2-year (r2) Certified status demonstrates that the organization has met key regulations and industry-defined requirements and is appropriately managing risk. This achievement places New Jersey Innovation Institute in an elite group of organizations worldwide that have earned this certification.

As an organization managing and working with federal and state governments to achieve large-scale transformation and interoperability, NJII felt it important to prioritize a top-level information security stature. Not only simply to safeguard critical data but also to continue to expand on programs focusing on improving quality, efficiency and patient outcomes. NJII offers a variety of advisory services that enable innovation and quality improvement through several consulting and technology solutions.

“HealthIT organizations are continually under pressure to meet complex compliance and privacy requirements that include technical and process elements such as NIST and ISO,” said Jennifer D’Angelo, Senior Vice President and General Manager at New Jersey Innovation Institute, Healthcare Division. “We are pleased to demonstrate the highest standards for data protection and information security by achieving HITRUST Risk-based, 2-year Certification.”

By including federal and state regulations, standards, and frameworks, and incorporating a risk-based approach, the HITRUST Assurance Program helps organizations address security and data protection challenges through a comprehensive and flexible framework of prescriptive and scalable security controls. To achieve certification, NJII’s core IT (Information Technology) team underwent HITRUST Risk-based 2-year (r2) validated assessment for 14 months that required a higher level of effort, which delivered the highest level of assurance for the organization.

“HITRUST knows that without a sufficient level of reliability, an assurance report doesn’t provide the requisite level of assurances as required to make important business decisions. That’s why we focus on producing the highest quality reports available,” said Vincent Bennekers, Vice President of Quality, HITRUST. “The achievement of a HITRUST Risk-based, 2-year Certification provides reliable assurances that New Jersey Innovation Institute is taking information risk management and compliance seriously.”
